Today Humbird announced the release of their new single, ‘Daughter of Empire’, along with the announcement of a new full length album, Morning When it Comes, out September 25 on Nettwerk Music Group.
Written by Siri Undlin, the artist behind the moniker, while navigating a wave of mental and physical illness, Morning When It Comes is a collection of twelve secular hymns that draw inspiration from the cosmos to find comfort down here on Earth. With glittering hooks, big-hearted grooves, and clear-voiced melodies, what began as a deeply personal, self-soothing songwriting process in isolation transformed into a grand, universal conversation about stability, surrender, and the power of community.
Recorded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, the album marks Undlin’s debut as a co-producer, working alongside longtime producer Shane Leonard. Together with a stellar cast of collaborators—including bassist Pat Keen and renowned pedal steel player Rich Hinman (Sara Bareilles, Rosanne Cash)—they have crafted a Midwest Americana sound that is lush and electrified. New single "Daughter of Empire” opens the album's twelve-song cycle mired in the heavy realities of late-stage capitalism and daily dissociation, before blooming into a shimmering, 70s-style folk-pop chorus.
Undlin reflects, ““It was surprisingly cathartic to take this song about empire and personal avoidance and choose to infuse it with playfulness and sonic urgency, a reminder that small changes can shift an entire framework if you’re willing to experiment and not take yourself too seriously.”
